Line drives to third Gatornationals win
(3-14-2010) GAINESVILLE, FL – Jason Line scored an exciting and emotional win on Sunday, capturing the Pro Stock title at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL. Starting from the seventh position, the Summit Racing Pontiac driver defeated Greg Stanfield, Ron Krisher and his teammate Greg Anderson in the early rounds before squaring off against Mike Edwards in the final, who had won the first two races of the season in dominant fashion.
Knowing he would need every advantage in order to pull off the upset, Line used an almost-perfect .004 reaction time to leave the line five hundredths of a second ahead of his opponent. Running in the less-preferred left-hand lane, he then covered the quarter-mile in 6.580-seconds with a t... [Read More]

Lang races to victory in first NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series event
(3-14-2010) GAINESVILLE, FL – Canadian flags waved in the grandstands at historic Gainesville Raceway Sunday as Manitoba's Kenny Lang made drag racing history as the first to win a Wally in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series.
Lang became the first winner in NHRA's newest national touring series as he drove his green 1953 Corvette to victory over Sweden's Michael Gullqvist, who drove the ProCareRX 1968 Camaro owned by series supporter Roger Burgess.
"This is a great event and I am thrilled to win it," said Lang who qualified sixth and defeated a tough group of drivers in earlier rounds including JEGS.com's Troy Coughlin, In-N-Out Burger '63 Corvette driver Melanie Troxel a... [Read More]

Houston bound, Stanley style
(3-14-2010) HAGERSTOWN, MD – It's been a long, cold and snowy winter up on The Hill here in Hagerstown, MD.
We were plagued with snow, snow and more snow throughout the winter months. At one short span of time we managed to accumulate over 48 inches in a week. But we persevered and worked our butts off getting things completed.
The Appalachia on Steroids Camaro is finally ready to roll off down the highway of life snugly tucked away and ably toted along by our trusty steed, Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Upon arrival in Houston it will be ready yet again to enter the arena of the baddest hot rods on the planet, the ADRL's Pro Extreme class.
The only rules changes over the winter were the postings saying t... [Read More]

Promising start comes to abrupt halt for Coughlin
(3-14-2010) GAINESVILLE, FL – After a strong third-place qualifying effort and a big first-round win over Phoenix finalist Bob Yonke, four-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. thought his team had finally sorted out his JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt. But a disappointing Round 2 loss to Greg Anderson Sunday afternoon at the 41st annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals brought question marks back to the team.
"Never for one second did I expect this car to shake the tires like that," Coughlin said of the main issue that lost him the round. "We were fully expecting another 6.55 out of this thing and as consistent as it had been yesterday and this morning, we were ready for a long day at the track. We thought our consistency was back."[Read More]

Troxel bows out in quarter-finals in FC and PM
(3-14-2010) GAINESVILLE, FL – Melanie Troxel was quick to exact her revenge on fellow female Funny Car racer Ashley Force Hood, beating her friendly rival in a wild first-round tilt at Gainesville Raceway where Troxel got very close to the left-side retaining wall before pulling out the victory.
The win evens the season score between the two after Force Hood's victory over Troxel at the NHRA Full Throttle tour's last stop two weeks ago in Phoenix. Overall, Troxel is 2-1 versus Force Hood, the daughter of 14-time world champion John Force.
It took some work to turn on the win light as both women's cars lost traction almost immediately into their runs. The two battled hard to regain traction, getting on and off the ... [Read More]

Pro Mod's Burgess unhurt, but eliminated by contact with wall
(3-14-2010) GAINESVILLE, FL – Pro Mod racer Roger Burgess emerged unscathed from a brush with the retaining wall of Gainesville Raceway Sunday in the second round of the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. The accident eliminated Burgess from competition as, by rule, the wall is considered out of bounds.
"That's the first time I've been that far out of shape," Burgess said. "But you know how it is -- you always press a little too hard trying to win the round. If I had it to do over again, I would have done the same thing. Sometimes you think you can drive through it and you try. That time I couldn't.
Burgess' R2B2 Racing teammate Michael Gullqvist of Hasselby, Sweden, benefitted the most... [Read More]

A 48-time winner in the class, Coughlin will be trying for his first victory of the 2010 season when the elimination rounds of the 41st Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals begin around noon Sunday.
"We've made a lot of runs on the car this year and we hadn't been able to get it to repeat very well until today," said Coughlin, who also ran a 6.554 in Saturday's second session. "Dad (Jeg Sr.) has been here with us this weekend and together we sat down with Roy (Simmons, tuner) and Victor (Cagnazz... [Read More]
