Vegas in the books, Fontana next for PSCA

(3-31-2015) LAS VEGAS, NV – Doug Sikora and his 2000 Mustang have been dominant in the Pacific Street Car Association’s MagnaFuel Outlaw 10.5 class in recent years and his earning top qualifier honors during this weekend’s season-opening MagnaFuel PSCA Vegas Nationals gave every impression the rampage would continue. Rick Schmidt had other ideas, however. Both were dead late off the line with Schmidt putting down a .429-second reaction time with Sikora cutting a .488 light. After a wild pedal fest that was one of many highlights of the weekend, Schmidt crossed the line with an ET of 4.696 seconds at 160.29 mph, .4 seconds faster than his opponent.

Anthony Smith, the pole sitter in the Vortech Outlaw 8.5 class, also looked to be the odds-on favorite to take the win, but Casey Van Tol and his 1964 Chevelle had other plans. The Orland, CA resident earned... [Read More]

Lamb Motorsports team riding high

(3-31-2015) HENDERSON, NV – Former NHRA World Champion Justin Lamb, his sister Ryen, and their teammate, 22-time NHRA Division 7 champion Kyle Seipel have enjoyed an incredible start to their 2015 season. At the season opening NHRA Circle K Winternationals in Pomona, CA, Seipel drove to a semi-final finish in Super Comp, while Justin Lamb drove his Sun State Companies Cobalt to a final round appearance in Super Stock. In an epic title clash with Cody Lane, Lamb fell despite posting a near perfect .006 reaction time and crossing the finish line first by just .001-of-a-second when Lane threw down an incredible .006 package!

Undeterred, the team made its way to Phoenix for the next stop on the NHRA Mello Yello tour, the CarQuest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals. There, the Lamb Motorsports team enjoyed a weekend they won’t soon forget. Kyle Seipel took the wheel of the... [Read More]

Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race cancelled

(3-31-2015) WILLOWBANK, QLD – Due to a worsening weather forecast for Saturday (April 4) – the scheduled day for our Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes - Willowbank Raceway has made the reluctant decision to cancel the Easter Saturday event.

“This decision has been made very reluctantly,” said Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson.

“The 90% forecast for showers and storms on Saturday is in addition to further showers forecast throughout the rest of this week, which makes it impossible for the venue to be appropriately prepared in time for Saturday.

“Making an early decision to cancel the event is not done lightly, but the Raceway believes it is the right call to make for the benefit of the racers and spectators, so that they might have time to change their plans and minimise their... [Read More]

A record 408 entries partake in 6th annual St. Patrick’s Classic; Brannon & Flegal headline $10K champs

(3-31-2015) DINWIDDIE, VA – A long snowy winter gave way only to a cold and rainy opening to March, forcing the postponement of the 6th Annual St. Patrick’s Classic at Virginia Motorsports Park by one week. A forecast for cold and rain even on Friday’s rescheduled date called for further schedule changes, compacting the $5K-$10K-$5K weekend into a 2-day $10K / $10K. Despite all of the challenges, racers defied Mother Nature in droves, filling the VMP pits with an event record 408 entries for Saturday’s ATI Performance Products $10K Main Event, presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Don't call it a comeback

(3-30-2015) CONCORD, NC – For the first time since the fall of 2009, Larry Morgan found himself in the final round. Could he do it? Could he grab hold of his 11th career Wally, and more importantly, would he have enough horsepower to get around Greg Anderson, Jonathan Gray, and Vincent Nobile.

The odds didn't appear to be in Morgan's favor. First off, he finished second in his two earlier quads. It's believed no other driver in the history of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals had finished second twice and then come back to win in the money round. Adding to the drama, Anderson had been running big mph all weekend and was on the verge of setting a new national record – in addition to being the most recent winner on tour. Not to be outdone, Gray posted the fourth-quickest run in Pro Stock history earlier in the day.

Morgan wasn't about to let the moment slip through... [Read More]

(3-30-2015) LUFKIN, TX – The International Hot Rod Association™ held its annual Summit Racing Pro-Am Tour event at Pine Valley Raceway in Lufkin, Texas, over the weekend of March 28-29. Beautiful weather graced eastern Texas’ premier quarter-mile drag strip for two complete events.

“Everything went really well. We had good weather, a great car count and hardly any oil-downs,” said track owner Bill Bailey. “The racers were really happy too.”

The only dual winner of the event was Fort Worth’s Aaron Jordan, who won the Junior Dragster Advanced class on Saturday and Sunday. The AMSOIL Best Engineered Car Award was won by Roger Massey (2003 Cavalier). Colton Reider (Junior Dragster Beginner) won the AMSOIL Best Appearing Car Award.

Saturday winners included: Janie Braswell (Stock), Travis... [Read More]

Gray Motorsports helps propel FireAde Racing driver Larry Morgan to winner's circle

(3-30-2015) CONCORD, NC – Gray Motorsports longtime friend, FireAde Chevrolet Camaro driver Larry Morgan, wheeled his fast racecar to the winner's circle with Gray Motorsports power under the hood at the 6th annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.

Morgan expertly drove off the starting line throughout eliminations to make full use of the power at his disposal and ended a 120-race winless streak with a final-round defeat of Greg Anderson, Vincent Nobile, and Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro pilot Jonathan Gray.

In the final round, it was Morgan taking the winlight, fantastically displaying Gray Motorsports horsepower to the tune of a 6.464, 214.52 to Anderson's 6.475, Gray's strong 6.498 at a booming 214.72 mph (a career best), and Nobile's 6.508.

Shane Gray takes IDG Camaro for a fast ride

(3-30-2015) CONCORD, NC – Fans fell in love with the Industrial Distribution Group (IDG) Chevrolet Camaro driven by Shane Gray at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals this weekend, and admirers of the striking IDG scheme swarmed the pit area to watch four-time NHRA winner Gray and his Gray Motorsports team prepare the car for action. Tuned by crew chief Justin Elkes, Gray qualified in the top half of the field in the 120th Pro Stock race of his career and came to the starting line ready for whatever was to come in the first round.

The Mooresville, N.C., resident who calls zMAX Dragway home settled into his reliable IDG Chevrolet for a first-round match with Erica Enders-Stevens, Chris McGaha, and Buddy Perkinson. After seeing the inside of the final round at the Four-Wide Nationals in each of the two previous seasons, Gray certainly had... [Read More]

Jonathan Gray goes to first final of the year

(3-30-2015) CONCORD, NC – Following two smooth qualifying passes, Jonathan Gray came into eliminations for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals feeling more confident than he has in a long while. The driver of the Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro launched with typical efficiency off the starting line in the first quad to journey down the racetrack in the tricky, four-across race. His .024-second reaction time was followed by a stunning 6.465-second pass at 214.11 mph that reset his personal best for elapsed time. Gray advanced as the winner from round one, with Summit Racing's Greg Anderson runner-up.

The two moved into a second-round quad and were joined by low qualifier Chris McGaha and reigning world champ Erica Enders-Stevens, both of whom had trouble getting their cars down the track. Gray and Anderson again moved on, and Gray did so with... [Read More]

Larry Morgan drives FireAde Chevrolet to victory in Charlotte

(3-29-2015) CONCORD, NC – The drought is over for Larry Morgan.

The veteran Pro Stock campaigner scored a victory at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals on Sunday, driving his FireAde Chevrolet to the winner's circle for the first time since October 2009 in Las Vegas.

"I couldn't be happier," Morgan said. "I've won a lot of races, but this has to be one of the best ones I've ever won."

The victory was Morgan's 11th in Pro Stock but his first since aligning with Gray Motorsports and partnering with Fire Service Plus and FireAde. Gray Motorsports supplies engines and technical support to Larry Morgan Racing, and FireAde and President/CEO Ron Thames supply the resources for Morgan to go fast.

Morgan had some lean years since his last win. His most recent final-round appearance came in 2011 as he... [Read More]

Points leader Line claims national record at Four-Wide Nationals

(3-29-2015) CONCORD, NC – Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line didn't exactly get what he wanted at this weekend's 6th annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, but the insatiably horsepower-hungry, 36-time Pro Stock winner leaves zMAX Dragway with a certain advantage over his competitors. He is in possession of the points lead and, after a very productive weekend, is once again the NHRA national record holder for elapsed time.

Line narrowly missed qualifying in the top spot, clocking a 6.481 to start from the No. 2 spot, but the first round of eliminations left the fans floored as the two-time Pro Stock champion flew to a 6.455-second pass at 214.48 mph in his blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. Although Line has been quicker in testing, the pass was the quickest run ever in NHRA Pro Stock competition, and the KB Racing driver... [Read More]
