(7-15-2008) SACRAMENTO, CA – Mike Henry drove his Kustom Koffin sponsored 1981 Camaro to the Top Sportsman finals at the 35th annual Fox Hunt at Sacramento Raceway Park.

After having his first qualifying attempt thrown out there was only one session left for him to qualify and with track temperatures in the 100-degree range the team would have their hands full. But no one knew the ace they held, legendary nitrous tuner Pat Watson of Watson Performance took the little 565ci T&S Enterprises built engine to the #2 spot with a 7.28 @ 189mph, earning the team a bye run in the first round. With Pat Watson serving as crew chief for this event the entire field would feel the pressure.

In round two, it was Matson Racing that went home early as Mike Henry also collected the $200 bounty that was anonymously posted on Dave Matson to keep him out the points chase.

The team worked hard and kept the car running consistent 7.28’s through eliminations while taking out top teams along the way. In the semi-finals it was Sarmento Racing’s 2008 GT500, driven by young-gun Tyler Polley, exiting the round after a -.001 red light that sent Mike Henry into his first West Coast Top Sportsman final.

“After a horrific nitrous explosion I experienced in Utah two months ago, I haven’t been in the car since. It’s scary to see your window blown out and hood scoop in a thousand pieces, while getting knocked out by the blast. If it weren’t for the hard work of Kustom Koffin owner Dan Marley and a few others I would have thrown in the towel,” said Mike.

In the finals Mike lost on a holeshot but he still ran another consistent 7.28. The team will head off to Medford, Oregon next and do battle with some of the best racers on the West Coast. “I’d like to thank all of my sponsors and the fans that stick behind me. Kustom Koffins, IBEW Local 6, Gotelli Speed Shop, T&S Enterprises, Sunset Garage, Siglo Plumbing Supply and Watson Performance Products. Special thanks to Spec Rite Torque Converters, Bob Bunker Jr. and QuarterMileDesigns,” said Mike.
