(7-21-2008) MOORESVILLE, NC – After several attempts Ronnie Gardner and car owner Jack Gaddy get their first Outlaw Mad Dawg win. Ronnie won the race after a pedal fest with David Lambert. "We had a new pair of slicks that we tried on the car that didn’t work out. We were trying them to see if it would help straighten the car out, and they didn’t. The first round we forgot to turn the computer on so we really didn’t know what was going to happen in the 2nd round and we ended up going low for the round. All in all it was a good night and man that is one nice trophy!" said car owner Jack Gaddy standing in victory lane.

With air temperatures in the mid 90's the track was a sizzling hot 138 degrees when the first round of qualifying kicked off. David Campbell in Thunderwolf II was atop the sheet. Just about everywhere David has been this year with his former Greg Anderson Pro Stock Grand Am he has been the quickest doorslammer in the field. David’s 4.274 at 179.58 was good enough to be #1 after first round of qualifying. Virginia racer J.D. Goad with his Dancing With Death Chevrolet was #2 with his 4.306 at 170.72. The #3 spot belonged to local racer David lambert with his 4.306 at 169.84. In the 4th slot sat the "Gunslinger" Andy Beal with his Beal racing engines ‘68Camaro that posted a 4.319 at 171.96.

The bottom half of the field was led by eventual winner Ronnie Gardner. Ronnie laid down a 4.340 at 168.51 to be in the #5 spot. The winner of the first Outlaw Mad Dawg race on May 5th at O’Reilly Farmington Dragway "Happy" Gilmer Hinshaw was in the 6th position. Gilmer and his Kresto Chevrolet Cobalt ran a 4.358 at 176.79. Joel Douglas in Ant’s bright yellow Cavalier was 7th with a 4.364 at 165.15. Making his Outlaw Mad Dawg debut Mike Heath driving Mark the "Kid" Jones Oldsmobile had the 8th spot. On the outside looking in were Jamie Chappel, Jason Harris, Greg Pa Illo Jr., Darrin Hoyle, Tony Dale Wilson, Dap Morrison and Chad Tilley who battled transmission problems and couldn’t continue.

During the first round of qualifying Mark Jones driving Jim Wheatley’s Camaro shook the tires real hard and that sent him toward Darrin Hoyle who was in the other lane. Mark pulled the Camaro back and doing so he hit the guard rail with the quarter panel of the car. "I’m alright, I don’t know what happened. It’s never done that before. It went out and was on a good run and boom it went into shake hard. I was trying to stay off of Darrin and got the wall in the process. The car really isn’t that bad. Mostly cosmetic and 1 bar bent in the trunk." said a shaken up Mark Jones.

J.D. Goad was still in the #2 spot but he picked up his E.T. to the tune of a 4.274 at 170.72. David Lambert was still 3rd even though he missed the 2nd round of qualifying to help fellow competitor Chad Tilley try and fix his transmission. Darrin Hoyle catapulted to the 4th slot after posting a 4.309 at 166.80. Andy Beal and Ronnie Gardner couldn’t improve on their first round times and were moved down to 5th and 6th. Gilmer Hinshaw who also used his round 1 time was 7th while Jason Harris ran a 4.360 at 166.80 to get into the field in the 8th spot. Joel Douglas and Mike Heath were bumped out of the top 8 and now on the outside looking in.

The 3rd and final round got kicked off with a little better conditions. David Campbell decided it was time to pick it up ran a stout 4.248 at 179.71, with that run David set the new speed record for the Outlaw Mad Dawgs. David Lambert too picked it up, he stopped the clocks with a 4.272 at 170.72 that had him 2nd. J.D. Goad was moved down to 3rd when he couldn’t improve on his earlier time. Jason Harris had his Billy Albert powered GTO tuned up and jumped into the 4th slot with a 4.305 at 169.26. Darrin Hoyle was now 5th with his 4.309 at 166.80 that posted in the 2nd round. Ronnie Gardner picked up the E.T. to a 4.317 at 169.48 but it wasn’t enough to move him up in the order and he was still 6th. Andy Beal battled tire shake and relied on his first round time to get him in the field. Mad Dawg winner Gilmer Hinshaw held down the 8th and final spot with his 4.339 at 176.79. The field was separated by less than a tenth after qualifying.

After qualifying was over there was a vote to see who won the Bunton LeBe Tire and Automotive Burnout Contest. J.D. Goad won this contest hands down when he did a burnout that covered most of the 1/8 mile. He had to back up from the 600 foot mark and he really had the crowd on their feet.

The first round action kicked off with Gilmer Hinshaw and Jason Harris. Jason got off the line first with his .027 light to Gilmer’s .048. Jason never looked back winning the race with a 4.287 at 169.65 to Gilmer’s 4.337 at 167.87. Next up was J.D. Goad and Ronnie Gardner, Ronnie ran a 4.231 at 171.56 while J.D. had a problem with his car. It wouldn’t hold in the beams and the car lunjed forward when he tried to stage turning on the red light. Andy Beal and David Lambert were the next pair up. Andy like J.D. had problems staging the car and David went right down the track with a 4.242 at 170.74. Darrin Hoyle had the tough task of taking on #1 qualifier David Campbell. Darrin turned on the red light and David stopped the clocks with a 4.245 and for the 3rd time in a row he ran over 179 mph with 179.68 mph blast.

<img src="http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o381/outlawnews/DCMD.jpg" align="right" borders="0" width="275" height="198">The first of the 2 semi-final match ups had Jason Harris and David Lambert going head to head. Jason took a shot at the tree and went .005 red while David Lambert battled tire shake and went a 6.076 at 111.52. David Campbell and Ronnie Gardner were the other pair in the semi finals. David ran the low E.T. of the night with a 4.224 at 172.44 but Ronnie got off the line first with his .023 reaction time to David’s .065 and Ronnie’s 4.24 at 177.51 was enough to get the holeshot win.

The final round was set, 2 veteran Outlaw racers going at it for the bragging rights, trophy and check. Ronnie had lane choice but it wasn’t a factor, he took the lane he had been running all night and David got the lane he had been running all night. After the 2 did their burnouts the teams put them in the lanes. The tree activated and Ronnie cut a .009 light and as soon as David hit the throttle his car stumbled bad. Ronnie and David both ran into some tire shake and the race turned into a pedal fest. David tried to recover from the mishap on the tree but couldn’t. Ronnie won the race with a 5.048 at 138.72 to David’s 4.821 at 159.91.

Runner-up David Lambert said, "I don’t what happened it just stumbled real bad on the line. I’ve never won here, I’ve been runner-up several times. I’ll get one here soon, this car is starting to come around. This car hasn’t been raced that much this year so I think with some more track time it’s going to get even faster. We still had a good night. "

Rhonda Lambert, David’s wife was still smiling and said, "We’re still doing good, it’s good car and it has plenty of potential. This is only our 3rd time out and we’re in the final. It was still a good night, I’m happy with everything."

Race winner Ronnie Gardner said, "We’ve ran several of the races and have yet to win one until tonight. It was good night, the car performed real good. We tried another set of slicks earlier in the night and the car didn’t like them, we were trying to get the car to go a little straighter but it didn’t work. All the guys that work on this car deserve this, Jack Gaddy, Mike, Greg, Jamie, Brian, Robbie, James and Mater. They are a great group of guys. I also want to thank Prime Time Race Cars, Ace Fence Company, and Tree’s R Us for all their support."

Race promoter Mark Joyce added, "It was a great race and we had a good crowd. I appreciate the fans, all the drivers and their crews, and Jody Leazer and the great staff at Mooresville for doing such a good job."
