(8-3-2008) TIMBERLAKE, NC – On Saturday, August 2nd the Pro Outlaw Doorslammers brought "The Show" back to Roxboro Dragway.

After a mid-day shower the great staff at Roxboro had the track ready for the Pro Outlaw Doorslammers to begin qualifying. With a list of 16 awsome doorslammers on the qualifying sheet, positioning would be critical for the competitors.

After the first round of qualifying Mark Spalding in his Buck powered Trans Am would be on top of the list with a beautiful 4.29 pass followed closely by Jason Harris in his Billy Albert powered GTO with a 4.30. Jason was one of the new members who joined the P.O.D at Roxboro, along with Kevin Mayer and Herbert Bright, Jason is highly competitive in the Big Dog series.

After the second round of qualifying Jason Harris would capture the number 1 qualifying spot with a dominating 4.22 @ 171 with Dewayne Silance taking over the number 2 spot with a 4.26 @ 174. Mark Spalding's 4.29 would keep him in the number 3 spot followed closely by Chris Croom with a 4.29 pass of his own while really having his hands full.

No match-up was bigger than Kevin Fortney in his Buck powered Monte Carlo going up against Charles Kelly in the Buck powered S-10. Before the start of this race the POD points leader Kevin Fortney had a 3 point lead over Charles Kelly who was in third place. Kevin would take the win over Charles. David Merz would have a competition bye with Chris Croom unable to make the call for first round. Matt Suite in his Buck powered Oldsmobile, who was the number 2 man in the points behind Fortney, would take the victory over Chuck Charter in his Buck powered Trans Am. Kenny Ferguson in his Buck powered Grand Am would take the win over Bobby Leonard in his Reher & Morrison Speedtech powered '57 Chevy after Leonard went red. Mark Spalding would take the win over Herbert Bright in his Eagle Racing Engines powered Trans Am. The 2007 Outlaw Top Gun Champion, Kevin Mayer in his Blown '41 Willys would take the win over Jim Teachman in his Buck powered '57 Chevy. Dewayne Silance in his Buck powered 68 Camaro would take the win over Bracket Vaughn in his PAR powered '41 Willys. Vaughn had trouble getting down the track in qualifying which hurt his positioning although he did run a nice 4.30 against Silance's 4.20. The 4.30 would have given anyone else trouble that round which is worth noting.

When the POD lined up for round number 2 it was easy to see that this promised to be an exciting night for heads up doorslammer fans. The first cars to come out of the burnout box would be the number 1 qualifier against the number 1 man in the points. Jason Harris would take the win with a 4.21 over Kevin Fortney's 4.38. The Harris Racing Team did a great job turning the car around with a tranny change on the list of things to do for round 2. Matt Suite would take the win over David Merz with a 4.30 while Merz had problems. Dewayne Silances 4.22 would take out Kenny Ferguson. When the final two cars lined up for round 2, the fans came estatic. Mark Spalding would bring it against Kevin Mayer in the famed Pirate Ship. Big Buck powered nitrous versus the big horsepowerd Blower on alcohol. Mark would run a 4.247 to Kevins 4.248 with Kevin Mayer earnig the win at the tree.

<img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff53/outlawpms/DSR1.jpg" align="right" borders="0" width="275" height="198">In the semi-finals Jason Harris would take the win over Matt Suite and Dewayne Silance would take the win over Kevin Mayer. This would pit the number 1 qualifier Jason Harris in the Billy Albert 632 powered GTO against Dewayne Silance in the Charlie Buck 738 powered 68 Camaro. As a fan, the Camaro looked like a missle when it was released. Dewayne would run the best e.t. of the day, with a 4.14 while Jason Harris ran another low 4.20 pass.

With Dewayne Silance winning another Pro Outlaw Doorslammers race he moved into the number 2 spot only 3 points behind Kevin Fortney and Matt Suite. Suite was able to tie for the number 1 spot at Roxboro. It will be interesting to see if the Silance Racing Team decides to come north to our next race and try to capture that number 1 position in the POD champoinship points chase.

The Pro Oulaw Doorslammers thank all the great teams for giving the Roxboro fans "The Show". Next stop for the fastest growing heads up doorslammer club on the East Coast will be Summerfest at Sumerduck Dragway August 16th.
