(3-10-2008) HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – The Accufab Racing Team which now features not only the 2002 Mercury Cougar of John Mihovetz but also the black 1957 Chevrolet of Ed Thornton are looking to place 1st and 2nd at this weekend's PSCA Orme Brothers Spring Break Shootout March 14-16 at AAA Dragway at California Speedway. The Team accomplished that feat at the close of 2007 with Thornton finishing 1st in the Hughes Performance Pro Street Championship followed closely by Mihovetz.
"Last year we were consistent in eliminations and we had an average ET of 6.57 when someone was next to us for the entire season," commented Thornton the 4 time champ. "But we need to step up our game for 2008 there are many cars that can run close to us and a couple that are better like John (Mihovetz)."
The Team has spent the offseason going over both entries with a fine tooth comb. Mihovetz was able to test his car first at the NHRA Winternationals and the hard work paid off with a great 6.58 which was posted with the throttle closed by 5 seconds and the parachute out.
"It was on a hell of a run," explained Mihovetz. "But I didnt want to whack my index and I had already passed the guy in the other lane. I cant wait for this weekend so I dont have to let off!"
Mihovetz incrementals indicate that he was at least .05 seconds quicker to half track with a 4.100 than his PSCA ET Record run of 6.35.
As for the '57 Chevy the car has been getting a preseason makeover at FASTMotorsports where a new GP Motorsports wiring harness coupled with a few other new parts are expected to yield lower elapsed times and higher speeds.

"We have found some areas of the car that were severely lacking and holding us back last year. One example is that when we put the 519 in the car last year we could not get the clutch to lock up. If you notice the car did not run big speed in the last few races. We were slipping about 200 rpm in the lights on each run. On our car at 220 we are about 37 MPH per 1000 driveshaft rpm with the current gear and tire growth. Essentially we had more engine than we had clutch. When we tried to step the clutch up - we would shake the tires. We have found something that we think will allow us to use all the power we can make and have the clutch lock properly which should bring our top speed back up."
The Accufab Racing Team would like to thank the following partners who make our racing team successful. Mickey Thompson Tires and Wheels, Lamb Components, Precision Turbo and Engine, SCE Head Gaskets, Isky Cams, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Borla, Shaun Hyland Motorsports, Sinister Race Cars and Lenco Transmissions.
