(4-10-2008) BAKERSFIELD, CA – The West Coast Hot Rod Association starts its sophomore season with the Team Performance Products Spring Nationals this weekend at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.

Coming off a successful first season series director Tim Rigby is looking for bigger and better things in 2008. “We have a good group of sponsors on board and the future is looking bright for the series. Our first year went better than we ever expected, the racing was great and we saw things like Steve Paulauskis huge 6.33 Pro Street pass in less than ideal conditions. Our racers are a great bunch of people and they really appreciate us putting the fun back into the sport. The Team Racing giveaway trips to Cabo San Lucas were a huge success last year as were the racer barbeques and the bands. This year Team’s Tom Nelson is broadening the scope of the giveaway draw and all the fans are now eligible to enter. The only stipulation is they have to be in attendance at the Award Ceremony at the end of the event.”

Rigby went on, “Our Pro Street class is the equal of any in the world. We have turbochargers, blowers, nitrous and Art Hodges is there holding up the end for normally aspirated. We have added two new classes for 2008, the A/FX guys ran with us at one event last year and had such fun they are back for the season and will crown a Champion just like all the other classes. We have added a .5 Full Tree class that allows no electronics to help fill out the field. It is from this class we will draw our new index racers once they see how much fun heads-up racing is.” To create even more excitement for the fans, Rigby and the good folks at the WCHRA are flying in Al Tucci for the first and last events of the year. “Tucci is amazing, he adds to the fan’s experience and makes them want to come back for more; he is a big asset to our organization.”

The Team Performance Products Spring Nationals starts off with a Test-N-Tune on Friday from 1pm - 7 pm. Gates open Saturday at 8 am, qualifying starts at 11 am. Gates open Sunday at 8am with eliminations staring at 10am. As an extra treat for the fans at the first two events the local Pro Mod motorcycle association is putting on an eight bike shootout. More information on the series can be found on the WCHRA website at www.westcoasthotrod.com.
