NTB Service Central driver Shane Gray optimistic following first day of Houston qualifying
(4-27-2012) BAYTOWN, TX – Shane Gray and the Gray Motorsports crew are looking forward to the second day of the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals so that they can have another go at the racing surface at Houston’s Royal Purple Raceway in their NTB Service Central Pontiac GXP.
At the conclusion of the first session, Gray was 15th based on a 6.668 at 207.46 mph, and after changing the bullet in their good old Pontiac, they improved to a 6.655, 208.26. However, the improved e.t. and speed weren’t enough to give them any elevation amongst competitors who also quickened pace. Tomorrow the main objective for Gray, currently 11th in the Full Throttle Series standings, will be breaking into the field to earn a raceday start.
“We ran into some trouble on that first pass and we had to pull that engine out and start fresh for Q2,” said Gray. “We sure hustled, and so we had really hoped to see more improvement on that second run. But we did pick up some, and I tell you what: we are definitely looking forward to tomorrow.”
Qualifying for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals continues with two final sessions on Saturday at 11:30 am and 2 pm before Sunday’s final eliminations.
