Rickie Smith earns qualifying lead in Pro Mod Series at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

(7-6-2012) NORWALK, OH – Veteran Pro Mod driver Rickie Smith raced to the qualifying lead Friday in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by ProCare Rx portion of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

Smith’s first qualifying attempt earned him the provisional No. 1 position with a quick 6.022 second pass, and his performance of 5.951 seconds at 241.50 mph on the second qualifying attempt in his IDG Camaro secured his spot in the top qualifying position heading into Saturday. If his time stands through Saturday’s final qualifying session, it would be his second consecutive No. 1 qualifying position of the season .

Donald Walsh holds the No. 2 spot in his '11 Mustang with a 5.983 at 248.71. Roger Burgess sits third with a performance of 6.034 seconds at 249.29 mph in his '53 Corvette and Mike Castellana is fourth with a 6.049 seconds at 237.75 mph in his new late model Camaro.

Pro Mod Qualifying resumes on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and the first round of eliminations is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. Pro Mod eliminations will continue Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m.


Friday's results after the first two of three rounds of qualifying for the Sixth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, sixth of 10 events in the NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by ProCare Rx. Qualifying will continue Saturday for Saturday's final eliminations.
