Countdown to the Championship Top Five for 2012: PMRA driver Jeff Roth – Fourth Place
(10-18-2012) CAYUGA, ON – For Jeff Roth, his 2012 Pro Modified Racing Association season was a year of ups and downs.
Roth, from New Dundee, Ontario, placed fourth in the PMRA Championship Points Award Series presented by Global Emissions Systems Inc., and started out the year with a bang, qualifying number two at the season opener at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park and winning the event over three-time champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario.
It was also during this race the team ran a season best with a 5.999-second pass at 238.34 mph.
The driver of the Roth Racing 1941 Willys Pro Modified made it to the semi-finals at the next event, in Martin, Michigan, but then did not qualify for the third race, held at Cayuga.
During the IHRA MOPAR Nitro Jam race at Grand Bend, the team was back in form, qualifying second with a stout 6.004 and going to the semi-final. And even though Roth ran a 6.46 at 237 for the next event, it was not good enough to get in the show. For the two final races of the seven-race season, Roth qualified third in both, with a semi-round and first-round placing.
Roth has raced with the PMRA since 2008. His victory at Cayuga early in the year was his second in PMRA competition.
Powered by a 526-cubic inch supercharged engine from Atchison Racing, the Lowdown Hot Rods-bodied Willys runs a Lenco three-speed transmission, Atchison fuel system, and a PSI screw-type blower.
Dave Bankes is crew chief on the team, which is owned by Jim Roth. Larry Summerfield, Marc McCrae and Ashley Roth are also crew members.
Sponsorship is provided by Oak Grove Cheese, Shellbourne Fuels, NGK Spark Plugs, Fire Core 50, Dragstar, and The Strand Hair Salon.
