Jeg Coughlin Jr. grateful to fans who voted him into K&N Challenge
DELAWARE, OH – Jeg Coughlin Jr. will get a shot to win a fourth K&N Horsepower Challenge on July 9 in Norwalk, Ohio, and the driver of the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger wants to tip his hat in thanks to the people who made his entry in this year's race possible – the fans.
The top seven spots in the challenge are determined by points awarded during Pro Stock qualifying during the previous calendar year with the final spot determined by a fan vote. It's a race all Pro Stock racers wish to participate in as it signifies being a part of the elite in the sport.
"The K&N Challenge is the Top Gun of drag racing; the best of the best head-to-head in a three-round shootout," Coughlin said. "Winning this event is what every Pro Stock racer strives for and being a past champion (1999, 2000 and 2009) makes us feel very proud and honored. Even better is having another chance to win it again."
After taking 2011 off from Pro Stock competition, Coughlin said the fans going to the K&N Filters Web site to cast ballots to get him into the field was key.
"Having our fans and peers vote us into the eighth and final spot of the K&N Horsepower Challenge is fantastic," Coughlin said. "When we elected to make a return in 2012; I was hopeful the fan vote format would continue so we'd have a chance.
"This format gave us an opportunity to still compete for a fourth championship since we hadn’t earned any points while not competing in 2011. I want to say over and over to everyone that voted for me -- Thank You…Thank you!!!"
Coughlin earned a whopping 66 percent of the fan voting for the final spot in the field.
