Consistent KLR Group Chevy has Erica Enders exuding confidence

(8-4-2012) KENT, WA – Erica Enders has the kind of car that racers dream about heading into Sunday's Pro Stock eliminations at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals.

No matter the conditions the KLR Group Chevy has been making its way down the Pacific Raceways track, which has given the whole GK Motorsports team a ton of confidence.

"The car has been awesome and consistent," Enders said. "That's what it's going to take to get the job done tomorrow."

Enders qualified No. 4 in the Pro Stock field with a best pass of 6.573 seconds at 210.73 mph, her fifth Top 4 qualifying performance for the year.

The Pacific Northwest is generally known for cool weather and cloud cover, but both have been in short supply this weekend as the sun has been out both days and temperatures have soared into the 90s, which has made finding the right combination a little tricky.

"Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day yet," Enders said. "Having our hot weather setup down will be a big benefit for us tomorrow. The track was 132 degrees that last time we went down the track, and we navigated it pretty well.

"It gives me a lot of confidence in the driver's seat knowing I've got a car under me that's capable of winning, no matter the conditions."

Enders draws No. 13 qualifier Ron Krisher in the first round. Krisher, who had a best pass of 6.630 seconds at 209.46 mph, is one of a knot of drivers trying to earn a spot in the Countdown to the Championship.

"There's three races left before the start of the Countdown," Enders said. "We're trying to position ourselves as best as we can before it starts. There's come cutthroat competition out there and we're going to be fighting until the end.

"The 'regular season' is winding down and people are getting more and more hungry, but it's important for me not to change my mindset no matter who might be in the lane next to me."

Eliminations at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals get under way at 11 a.m. PDT from Pacific Raceways.
