Grand Bend Motorplex Thunder By The Beach PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, & PBSS Qualifying Summary

Latino, Litchy, DeJonge, and Orfanidis pace Grand Bend Motorplex’s “Thunder by the Beach” drag race qualifying sessions

(9-3-2012) GRAND BEND, ON – Qualifying rounds were completed Saturay in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

This race, held at the Grand Bend Motorplex during its Labor Day weekend “Thunder by the Beach” event, it is the final event for all three drag race series for 2012.

Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario qualified number one in the PMRA with a 6.055-second, 237.21-mph posting. Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario is in the number two spot, and Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario qualified third.

Qualifying fourth in the PMRA is Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, and Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario rounds out the top five.

In the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, James Litchy of Linwood, Ontario qualified number one in Top Dragster with a 6.180-second, 222.16-mph pass. Second is Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, Mike Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario qualified third, and Burlington Ontario racers Rick Kopp and Glen Vardy qualified fourth and fifth respectively.

On the Top Sportsman side, Fred DeJonge of Puslinch, Ontario took the top qualifier spot with a 6.687-second, 214.03-mph pass. Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario qualified second, Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario third, Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario fourth, and Dave Bell of Grand Bend fifth.

John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario rode his Suzuki to the number one qualifying position in PBSS competition with a 7.838-second, 176.71-mph posting. Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario qualified second, Chris Bondi of Aurora, Ontario qualified third, Ted Glinny of Milton, Ontario fourth, and Brandon Satchell of Saint Thomas, Ontario fifth.

Elimination rounds in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS will take place Sunday at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Also held during Saturday’s racing were the postponed elimination rounds in all three series.

Winning his first PMRA race was Jay Santos, who eliminated Derek Hawker in the final. Santos had qualified fifth for that event, and took out Andreacchi and Rocky Di Lecce of Mississauga, Ontario before meeting up with Hawker in the final. Hawker, who qualified seventh, eliminated Latino and Rob Atchison of London, Ontario.

Top Dragster driver Jeff Moser of Waterloo, Ontario won his second Quick 32 Sportsman Series race of 2012, beating Top Sportsman finalist Dan Aitken Jr of Belle River, Ontario in the final round. Moser beat Mike Kalin of Niagara Falls, New York in the Top Dragster finals, and Aitkin took out Martin in the Top Sportsman final.

Dan Cryderman rode his Pro Bike entry to his first PBSS win in the postponed race, beating Pro Bike rider Alex Cassels of Sundridge, Ontario in the final. Marty Kuiack of Milton, Ontario was a semi-finalist for this PBSS race.
