Thanks to FedEx, Lucas Oil's Morgan will be ready for action in Dallas
(9-20-2012) NEWARK, OH – After surviving some harrowing track conditions in Charlotte last weekend, Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan is looking to thrive this weekend behind the wheel of his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex.
"It's been awhile but I've won there before," said Morgan, the 1991 winner in Dallas. "The track has always been good to us."
Part of that plan to thrive involved whipping one of his engines back into shape back at the shop this week.
"We needed to re-do a motor," Morgan said. "We hurt it last time out, so we needed to freshen everything up. We'd be able to go without it, but it never hurts to have all the motors you can get ready to go.
"Thank God for FedEx. If it wasn't for them I don't think I'd be in this business. We'll get everything we need sent down there before we start racing."
With his round victory in Charlotte last weekend, Morgan moved up into eighth place in the standings and is a single point behind Ron Krisher for seventh place. Since not qualifying in Norwalk back in July, Morgan has won at least one round in five of the last six races, including a semifinal berth in Brainerd, Minn.
"The competition isn't getting any easier now that we're in the Countdown," Morgan said. "We just got to do what we've been doing and make the most of every race we go to."
Qualifying for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals get under way at 2 p.m. CDT Friday from Texas Motorplex. Qualifying continues Saturday starting at 11 a.m. with eliminations at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. ESPN2 will air the qualifying show starting a 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday with the eliminations show airing at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
