D&M Racing’s quarter-final finish leaves fans hanging on the fence
(8-5-2008) MEDFORD, OR – Mike Henry, driver of the 1981 Kustom Koffin sponsored Camaro, left the fans at Champion Raceway hanging onto the fence after a quarter-final loss that nearly sent him rolling.
What started out to be a promising weekend nearly ended in disaster when the #3 qualifier got out of control on the top end. “I knew that the left lane was marginal at best and that I would have my hands full but when I pedaled it the car swung hard right. I found myself in my opponents’ lane fighting hard to get her under control,” said Mike.
The car was ok but the crew including his wife had lumps in their throats after it was over. “We kept taking power out of it but the track just wouldn’t handle it,” Mike explained.
Even with all that excitement the team kept the car running 7.40s at 4200 ft elevation. They are still in the top ten and have one chance left to move up, as the West Coast Top Sportsmen have their final event at the Governors Cup in Sacramento, Ca. on September 20, 2008.
The team would like to thank all the sponsors that have made this year a success. We’ve been racing for 8 years and we have finally tasted success and it taste’s great. In 2009 we plan on making more consistent power while staying focused on the championship.
