First race, first win, new sponsor start the season off right for Taylor Racing
(3-9-2010) DICKINSON, TX – We had a very busy weekend of racing but there were no complaints from Taylor Racing.
A test session at Baytown on Friday resulted in our first full pass of 3.80 and yes, with a converter. We then packed up and headed directly to the Haning camp. Next we were off to Crandall for the first Texas Outlaw Pro Modified Association race of the year.
Dallas Raceway was nice to us on Saturday but I like to think Frankie and Paul had something to do with the results.
In the first round of qualifying we ran 3.796 196.04, good enough for the #2 spot. After electing to sit out the second session we went into the first round of eliminations and rang up a 3.808 197.65 against Michelle Wilson.
In the semifinals we met team mate Wes Johnston and got by him with a 3.798 196.99. That set up a final round match against Gaylen Smith.
The Frankie and Gaylen Show turned out to be anticlimatic this this time when the autostart system timed Smith out.
One of the highlights on Saturday was racing our team mate at Haning Racing in the semi finals. It was very competitive as our 3.798 beat Wes Johnston’s 3.997. We are still waiting to meet him in the finals so it will have to wait for the ADRL race in Baytown.
Of course Cody Barklage had to ruin our immediate chances of reaching TOPMA's ET and MPH records with his 3.70 run. Gaylen Smith holds the MPH record at 201.19. We will continue to work towards both of those numbers.
Yet the best moment of the weekend was holding up the trophy from the first TOPMA race of the year.
In other news we are very pleased to announce the addition of a product sponsor in Penray. We have been using their brake clean for years and now we have a chance to help promote their items as well. Go to
