Nilsson Motorsports returns to Veidec Festival
(7-28-2010) ESLÖV, SE – The Nilsson Motorsports team are now making the last work to their blown '57 Chevy before going to the Veidec Festival for a reunion with the big hitters in the FIA Pro Mod Championship.
Last time at Mantorp Park was in 2006 and then in a Top Fuel driving together with Andersen Racing, that year also was the last season on the big stage and resulted in being the first Swedish FIA Top Fuel champion.
Last summer started a new chapter in the Nilsson Motorsports team as a blown Chevy '57 was acquired and shipped back home to Sweden, it was/is a whole new deal for the team to work and tune a blown alcohol engine but with help from different teams and guys it has been going pretty good for us. The team has only been driving at the local track Veidec Raceway down in Malmö and did run a couple of 4.08’s at the 1/8 mile before the 2009 season was over.
During this spring and summer the talk about going to the FIA Pro Mod round at Mantorp Park came in place and since then there has been work and testing to get the car ready for its new adventure. So far this season we haven’t had any big success so we are looking forward to change that at the big stage during this weekend. Right now the team are making the final adjustments to the car such as a new four link and adding a spacer on the blower for hopefully getting a smoother power level on the Brad 6 engine.
Our team has got a new member for the weekend and it is Andrew Maye from US, Andrew is cousin to Kelly Martin who drove our car in the States. Andrew is a good friend of us and has been working on race cars for many years even if he’s only 27. We have also added Ola Mårtensson who is a good friend of us and will give a helping hand where it needs. Regular team member Lars-Benny Pettersson will take care of the engine between rounds with help from the other guys.
This will give Ulf Stadig and Håkan Nilsson the time they need for tuning the car and hopefully get it to run the numbers that we need to run for qualifying in the 16 car field during the Sunday, our goal for the weekend is to try and get the car qualified and be running good over the ¼ mile. If we manage with that we will have to regroup and come back with a new goal for the eliminations during the Sunday. All in all it will be nice to get back to Mantorp Park and see our old Pro Mod friends that we have been racing with for so many years before in the period between 1997-2005.
